Day 406 - Where Do the Best Ideas Come From?

Some of the smartest people I’ve ever had to the pleasure of working with will never have their contributions known. Their intellectual magic won’t ever grace a journal paper. They’re brilliant, razor sharp, and almost entirely hidden from the public eye.

It’s easy to assume that academia holds a privileged place in the realm of ideas. But a visible dataset is rarely the whole dataset. There is hidden and delightful data among the industrialists and entrepreneurs, among all of those amazing minds for whom academia was not their path, whose outputs outshine anything in the public domain.

In this episode of the podcast, I admit to one of my greatest gripes, namely the idea that all the best ideas come solely from academia…

How might you test your assumptions of where the best ideas come from?
